Carey was almost 5'10 tall before she stepped up to the high-end model. The popularity of her among American designers Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren was extremely high. Her father was an eminent scientist and was named Scientist of 1979 by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey was brought up throughout the world due to her father's work. As she was attending in the University of Colorado, Carey began modeling on the side. An agent from Ford model agency located in New York noticed her and was willing to assist. In the year 1980, she emigrated to France and briefly lived in Paris and Bordeaux and then returned to New York in order to continue the modeling profession. Her work was showcased on Vogue and Glamour covers. As she modeled and continued to pursue her studies full-time for a literature major within New York University. While she was studying acting at Neighborhood Playhouse, New York, her enthusiasm for acting increased. The year 1986 was the year she had her first acting role which was a part of Club Paradise, with Robin Williams. In her spare time, she enjoys skiing, white-water rafting, rock climbing, and wind-surfing.
